*RESERVE* Costa Rica Wush Wush - Honey - Fruity
In the biodiverse highlands of Biolley, Costa Rica, a rare Ethiopian heirloom has found new life under the care of Gonzalo Hernandez at Coffea diversa: Wush Wush. Originally from the renowned Kaffa region—considered one of the birthplaces of coffee—this unique variety now thrives in one of the most genetically diverse coffee gardens in the world, where over 800 different coffee types are cultivated.
Grown under native shade trees and surrounded by wild coffee species, this honey-processed micro-lot captures the striking character of its origin. With a cup score of 90 points, it delivers an expressive and aromatic experience. The cup offers a delicate floral body, bright, juicy acidity, and a lingering fruity-floral finish. Flavor notes include jasmine, ripe berries, and tropical fruit, all wrapped in a profile that is complex, vibrant, and beautifully balanced. Ideal for pour-over, filter brewing, or cupping sessions.
Wush Wush is known for its tall trees, fine leaves, and intricate cup character. While less common than Geisha, it shares a similar elegance and has gained a dedicated following among specialty roasters and judges for its floral and fruit-forward profile.
At Coffea diversa, innovation meets ecology. The estate uses a detailed six-step cultivation and processing method, beginning with same-day pulping to preserve the integrity of the cherries. Through washed, semi-washed, and natural processes, combined with manual selection and careful drying, each lot is crafted with precision. For peak preservation, the coffee is stored in a custom-built pine log cellar that controls humidity and is packed in 10kg plastic bags inside jute sacks.
This Wush Wush is not only a rare varietal but also a reflection of intentional farming, careful processing, and an unwavering commitment to sustainability. It’s a standout coffee that tells the story of heritage, biodiversity, and innovation, all in a single cup.
